The most useful things about the course were exposure to so many different tools, the progressive build utilizing the tools, presented concisely, the case write-up and discussion boards. In this course, we had five board discussions about five interesting topics. I learned also about database and data warehouses with some details about their uses and benefits. I learned about security of information technology and protection of information.I learned how decision support systems works and how it help managers and leaders to make right decisions. I have learned also about artificial intelligence. From the research paper, I have learned numerous realizations have been encountered. A simple act of turning of a computer will help save thousands of lives and it will definitely prolong our planet. Through this research, one must see that one small step is essential to start the ball rolling. The Information Systems has come a long way in terms of technology, they may be partly to be blamed for the environmental problem that we are facing today but what we do not realize is that they can also be a part of the solution. Turning into a greener technology is a necessity and not an option. The Information Systems community is being challenged to improve and hopefully eradicate the waste and it seems that they have the willpower and conviction to overcome our environmental issues. They have developed a positive attitude in addressing these environmental concerns and they are determined in following the green computing policies and practices. One lesson that I have learned is that as an individual, I can start helping save on cost without sacrificing the quality of work is by patronizing the programs set and developed by the different organizations. It made me realize that an individual does not have to shed thousands of dollars to be able to help in contributing to the green computing movement. By starting at our own home, you can recycle and reuse certain materials instead of storing it up thus creating a pile of hazardous waste. At home and in our neighborhood, we can start imparting these practices which is not hard to follow. Simply by setting an example, we as individuals can make a difference. Another lesson that this research has taught me is that there are more individuals that are not aware of the adverse effects of wasting energy through wrong usage of these computers. Based on the gathered information and statistics, we have wasted enough of our resources to contribute to the world%u2019s destruction. We now have to start to make some changes in order to reverse the destruction that was caused. By simply leaving a computer on, we help in destroying our planet and also help in the emission of hazardous gases or materials. By following the method of reusing and recycling, we have contributed to the improvement of our planet. We should not put to waste the efforts of the Information Systems group, they have come a long way in looking for more ways to improve this project. Our support and cooperation is greatly needed. The Green Computing experts owe us the opportunity to help us understand and practice being green. They can help create awareness among others. Gaining knowledge about green computing has made me realize that one small step is all we need to make sure that we will enjoy a better future ahead of us. Also, the invention of computers and other gadgets has affected our environment in several ways. From the production of these systems through its use and into its disposal presents environmental problems. I used to think that computers have no harmful effect but by going through this research, I have come to realize that it has a huge effect and that it should not be taken lightly. The huge increase on number of computers being used along with their frequent replacements make our environment more at risk which makes environmental impact their major concern. We need not point our fingers on the information technology community alone, we as individuals and as its consumers are partly to be blamed. A social responsibility to ensure environmental safety is a must.

I enjoyed taking this course as it provided a great opportunity to get hands on experience in developing a database design from concept to established structure and learning the process. The instructor provided an excellent set of course notes which by far can provide a good level of instruction on its own. Her summplementary exercises relating to use of Access were lucid and I highly recommend this course to those interested in database design.

Instructions on What You Should Do Scan your system using Ad-Aware and SpyBot-S&D. It makes no difference which order you run these two tools as they will each detect and remove what the other misses. Always make sure the reference files are up to date. SpyBot-S&D: Let it fix anything that is listed in red. Ad-Aware: Let it fix anything that it finds. After you complete these scans, you will want to run a good Anti-Virus scan on your system. Panda Anti-Virus has a good online scanner which should detect and remove anything on your system. If you are unable to go online or run any Anti-Virus you may currently have installed on your system, then don't worry about it as this can be taken care of later. Another alternative if you have access to it would be to boot from a Knoppix CD and do an Anti-Virus scan From Knoppix. Knoppix is a Linux distribution which can be booted from a CD without the need to install it. Once you complete the above steps, you will want to run HiJackThis, then post the contents of the resulting HJT log to one of the Forums listed below. Once you post your HJT log, you need to be patient and check back periodically because the personnel who are there to help you can get quite busy working on HJT logs posted by other users. It is also very important that any forum you decide to visit for help, that you read their FAQ before doing any posting if you want their help. If you are a skilled computer user who is technically oriented and feel confident about your skills, then you could try using one of the HiJackThis tutorials which are listed below. I would suggest reading both of them as this tool can very easily mess up your system if you are not careful.

Advanced GIS has been the most hands-on class I have had the pleasure of taking so far in my PhD program. The class intoduced me to a wide range of systems and tools. The ArcGIS system not only allowed me to get work done on my desktop, but we had access to ArcGIS server remotely, so we could accomplish a wide variety of projects and tasks. In addition to learning the ESRI ArcGIS system, I worked extensively with SQL Server 2008 spatial database, JavaScript programming language, and a PHP environment to publish my work in a web environment. Overall this was an outstanding class and one I would highly recommend it. It is very easy to see how GIS can be incorporated into research, and I hope to use it my future research.
