This page holds work for the Fall 2008 IS 306 course with Dr. Quinonez. You can view other people's portfolios by clicking on the IS306 tag on the bottom of this page, or by editing this page and looking in the sidebar.

Every student is required to post at least one entry to her/his Claremont Conversation Online portfolio for each class they take. The post is to reflect something that the student learned in the class. A grade of “Incomplete” or “Unsatisfactory” will be issued to any student who has not posted a suitable entry to her/his portfolio by the end of the term. For this class, you will write a one-thousand word essay reflecting on the significance/importance of information technology in today’s society.

Welcome to the home page for TNDY 4010 / INFOSCI 366a Fall 2006. This site is the final report for a class project investigating the role of inductive knowledge and scholarly community in shaping research activities at CGU.

Primary Research Questions:

1. What is inductive knowledge at CGU?

2. How does CGU's history shape its current research activities?

3. How to CGU researchers come to insight about research?

4. What is the role of social conversation at CGU to facilitating knowledge discovery/insight about research?

Process

To investigate these questions, we assembled a background paper and conducted a focus group with some of the distinguished scholars on the CGU faculty. This focus group was taped, and selected film clips are available in the different sections. For a full list of all films, please go to Group 5 and 6's page. The most interesting clips can be found on 6 Focus Group Findings.

The goal of this section is to construct a contextual (including historical) backdrop for the study. Group members will seek to understand the history, culture and context of the "Claremont Conversation."

While Group 1 will frame the research questions and objectives, the output of this group will be to address the background and context of those questions. The following examples are provided:

1. How did the different disciplinary approaches at CGU develop over time?

2. What is the role of inductive knowledge at CGU? How did this role develop over time?

3. How does CGU's history/culture shape its current research activities?

4. What is the role of social conversation at CGU? What role does CGU's history/culture play in today's social conversation?

Group Members: Kathryn, Seth, Justina (recommended), Yesenia (recommended)
