Thanks Andrea!  A lot of times companies overlook the transition plan and just dive into a project.   These best practices really help in assuring that your project is truly successful.  A transition plan is often more important than the project itself.  If you receive any push back from the team itself it is extremely difficult to have a successful project.  I can really relate to number 4 "Change the Project Team’s Mindset."  This is often the most important thing that goes overlooked.

Pat – it’s really fabulous to "see" a description of web services at EBI with actual examples of WSdbfetch, WSDL, and DTD/XSD. Chris will be happy to know that they’re planning to provide a REST API.  Thanks for finding this site....for me, a picture is worth a thousand words!!  Doris

P.S.--I got a 404 error on your link-->remove the colon at the end

PacSun's culture may have also been a factor in their success.  Mike's mantra, and I suppose most of the people at PacSun too, was "do whatever it takes to get the job done".  If the entire organization believes that each plays a role in the whole scheme of things and that contribution no matter how small has a positive impact to the organization, then success may be inevitable.

Thanks for the BitTorrent Jargon!  The tit-for-tat principle is quite interesting.  Does this mean that if you decide not to share any file on Bit Torrent, that they restric me from downloading any files? (Making me a Leech)  Also, do you know how they determine how many files you must share in order to speed up your download process?  Basically, is there some sort of a policy out there that says if I am sharing all my files than my downloading speed will be ***?

Seeing those steps that you mentioned is not necessarily a bad thing.  Rather, we should be happy that they don't go away.  Those steps should be a cornerstone, among other things, of any application development.

BTW, how bad to you want a flying carSmile

I like the chapter discussion of similar points.  It shows that the same terms can mean a great deal of different things to different people.  What is population?  What is a person?  When is a person a person in terms of the diamond carpool lane?

Yes, that is a good point. That is a good example of discrepancy between interests of government officials and normal customers. As a former economist of the bank of Korea, I heard that question whenever CPI was released. In brief, components that consists of CPI were decided based on through considerations. Once the components are fixed, the components are not easily changed because of reliability and validity.
