Pat, this is an interesting Blog. I was not expecting to encounter such heavy psychology and organizational sciences theory in IS. Although, it does seem to have it's place in the field. Im personally going to stick with Design Research. It does seem to be the most fun for me. So, what is RPD? Also, are you still doing that 1 paper per day bet w/yourself??

This is a very good site for the students to read; thanks for posting it. I've come across a couple of cases that happened to others in this regard. I've not been so unlucky as to have someone use my work, perhaps because it is not very interesting (?). In one case the person accused another of stealing his ideas and that person was made persona non grata in the research community. The second case was not to do with publications, but the person who was wronged in case 1 was actually holding two tenure-track jobs without either institution knowing it. He was found out and left both institutions in disgrace, although he landed another job at a lesser institution and is still quite active in our field. It made me wonder whether he made a false accusation in the first case I mentioned above. The third case was a colleague who I published with a few years ago. A paper that he had submitted for publication and was rejected showed up in another journal under a different author's name. He inquired with the first journal and found that the person who had published the paper had been a reviewer. I do not believe this person was punished appropriately. Shock horror. On another note, I told a colleague about the Pan and Pan paper. He said he knew a former editor of EJOR and would bring this to his attention. Stay tuned to see if anything comes of this.

As I noted in class, I don't believe that Design Science can itself be a kernel theory. If you recall the Walls et al. ISDT approach, you will remember that they call a kernel theory a "social science theory".

Pat, sorry you got food poisoning!? Never a fun time... Anyhow, I wanted to comment on graduate workload. I really think this depends on school and subject. Although I think the workload is a lot times here at CGU, I like what were studying (mostly) so it makes workload enjoyable (mostly :).

However this summer I was looking at a quantum mechanics course at Stanford I have to take. Since I already know this is not my most enjoyable subject, the workload seems much more strenuous...

Hope your feeling better...

So Charles, in wanting to be a rigorous researcher where is your reference for this finding?

Hey, Charles, I do not participate in sports, and I am never disruptive in class.  I have always preferred dance classes.  However, badminton sounds like fun, it might be a sport I could get into.  So thanks for letting us know about this.
