Management of Information Technology (IS328) is a motivating course that guiding strategies on how to align business and IT effectively. Special thanks to Professor Benjamin Schooley for sharing knowledge in lectures and thanks Jesus Canelon, our TA, for contributing to this course friendly. Class assignments are provided me to learn and think deeply from books and articles. Also, case analysis, and book review gave me a good change to participate and share idea with my group.

The concept of “Enterprise Architecture” is basement of IT management in organization. Leaders and employees have to understand their roles and try to use the right strategies in the right time to gain the most competitive advantages. In addition, the concept of “Project Management” and “CIO Leader” are also support achievement in business. Successful CIO has to lead their company, make a right decision, and utilize their resources wisely. Sometimes outsourcing is useful for the firm but we have to concern with what and when we should do outsource in both onshore and offshore.

Strategic planning and critical success factors are shown in the cases and valuable books we read. Each assignment gives me how to bring theory to practice in real case. To answer the questions, I not only answer the questions from books and articles but I also add some experiences related to questions to explain the details and show some examples. This course guided me to seek more knowledge in real world by reading and presenting book review. My group picked up the book “The New School of Information Security”. This book is useful for IT manager to rethink about the information security in their business. It’s good to criticize IT security and recommend what should be aware in information security.

Thanks again my group, for your contribution in book review and case study (Charles Schwab): Igho, Kuo-lun Tang, and Tom.

I have studied the fundamentals, design, and implementation of database processing in IS302. In this class, I have been taught how to query by using SQL with SQL server 2008. The class focused on the database design and implementation. Learning by doing project helps me better understanding how to manage database in real case. I gain more knowledge of the fundamentals of database design by applying materials provided in class and from textbook of Kroenke and Auer (2010).

It will not become skilled at database processing if we do not have group project in this class. With four team members in my group, the project "Automobile Web Portal System" started with how to analysis and design a data model. We created a data model by using Visio 2008 and presented the relationship of five main entities. Then, we transformed the data model into database design using normalization. We figured it out that sometimes database needed to be denormalization for better performance. The database design was also created by using Visio 2008. After that, we used the database design to implement the database in web application. It was a challenge project to managing database with SQL Server 2008 and connecting to visual studio. The most interesting and important parts are views, triggers, and stored procedures. It is very useful to implement all these functions in the application processing.

Lastly, I have learned how to work with team and time management. Thanks all my group members: Natdanai, Anaga, and Congshan for your best effort to this project. Also, special thanks to Dr. Ryan for your teaching in this class and thanks to Yousef for your lab teaching.

In IS366C class, I have learned from many resources, such as, textbook, articles, video, and exemplar papers of design research in information systems. Hevner and Chatterjee (2009) concluded both fundamental and salient topics about design science research knowledge in their textbook, which is very useful for a novice design science researcher.

After finishing this class, I found that the design science research (DSR) is very interesting and also can apply to many areas in information systems and technology. In DSR, a designer would like to answer questions related to human problems and try to solve the problems by contributing new knowledge and creation of an artifact. The IT artifacts in DSR can be constructs, models, methods, instantiations, and better design theories. DSR comprises of two main processes: building design artifacts and evaluation, which is iteration in the design cycle.  In addition, DSR should provide both rigor in knowledge base and relevance in environment. The artifact must be useful and effectively solve the problems.

Beside reading textbook and articles, I had to present the exemplar papers about DSR and analyze the papers by using Hevner’s seven DSR guidelines. It is very good opportunity for me to practice as a reviewer first. Then I can criticize that what the DSR should be. The most important part of this class is writing a DSR paper. I decided to follow Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) of Puffers et al. (2007). Therefore, my paper started by stating the problem identification and defining the objectives for a solution. Then, I proposed the design and development of the artifact. Next, I presented the demonstration and evaluation to present and measure how well the artifact supports a solution to the problem.

Thanks Dr.Chatterjee and all classmates that made me enjoy studying this class and have a good chance to write a paper together for submitting to the DESRIST 2010.

I have learned the fundamental of research method in IS362. In this class, I learned the concept of social science research method beyond to IS360. The background of IS360 helps me to better understanding of IS362. I gained knowledge of how to conduct and analyze the research and articles; decide what claim, reason, evidence, warrant, and limitation of the articles are. I further discuss with lovely classmates and examine what is good and what should be improved in each article. We spend two weeks for each article, therefore we have time to examine in detail and get the idea in the same direction.

Also, I consider that the textbook of this class is easy to read and understand. There are a lot of examples which assist readers to comprehend the concept of each chapter. Moreover, it is necessary to study in class in order to share and review each chapter and articles with Professor and classmates. I couldn’t learn that much if I just read the textbook and articles by myself. Learning by sharing knowledge and experiences give advantages to me both better understanding and closer to my classmates. Thanks Professor Ryan and all classmates that made me enjoy studying this class.

I have learned the fundamental of business models including IT impact on business and organizations in IS329. In this class, I learned the concept of corporate information strategy and IT in business beyond to IS328. The background of IS328 helps me to better understanding of IS329 especially Porter’s five competitive forces model and CIO’s role. I gained knowledge of how to leverage IT in business to gain the most competitive advantages. Furthermore, I have studied strategic plan to cope with problems by learning from case studies. The assignments that we have to post our opinions for each case are very benefit for me. I can learn and share my opinion with others. Sometimes, learning from each other can expand skills for analyzing the cases.

There are lots of discussions in this class which help me prepare for the talk and obtain several ideas. In addition, I know how to write the business plan by doing term project with my team, 5 members. Although we separate each part for each member, we still argue and discuss the whole project together. In this project, our group chose to do the business plan of Green IT business. I have learned how to work with team and time management. Thanks all my group members; Yoonmi, Natdanai, Kuo-Lun, and Dolly for your best effort to this project. Also, special thanks to Dr. Clark for your teaching in this class.

This page holds work for the Fall 2008 IS 306 course with Dr. Quinonez. You can view other people's portfolios by clicking on the IS306 tag on the bottom of this page, or by editing this page and looking in the sidebar.

Every student is required to post at least one entry to her/his Claremont Conversation Online portfolio for each class they take. The post is to reflect something that the student learned in the class. A grade of “Incomplete” or “Unsatisfactory” will be issued to any student who has not posted a suitable entry to her/his portfolio by the end of the term. For this class, you will write a one-thousand word essay reflecting on the significance/importance of information technology in today’s society.

Principles of IS & T Research (IS360) is an interesting course that giving a background of doing research for Ph.D. students. Special thanks to Prof.Lorne Olfman for sharing knowledge in lectures. The reading assignments (articles and textbooks), class discussions, blog posting and annotatie anchoring are provided me to learn and practice in both research and English skills.

In this class, I have learnt how to design real world research. Especially with excellent guidelines from two books, “The craft of Research” and “Real World Research”, I know how to make good claims supported with suitable reasons, evidences and warrants. Also, the different between fixed and flexible research designs including research methods gave me the idea when I have to design research project by myself.

This course further gives me a good chance to practice English skill. This is my first semester at CGU, my reading and writing skill was improved when I was doing my assignments on reading the articles and posting blog and anchor. During the class, I have learnt a lot from both professor and my classmates. Also, I can practice listening and speaking skill. Attending class is a good way to understand concepts of this course and share knowledge and experiences with professor and classmates. I enjoy this class so much.
