This empirical study points out that figuring out the identity of the Information Systems discipline is very important. It puts forward two problematic trends for current researchers in this area, and explains in detail with a quantitative approach a core set of properties. As argued by Albert and Whetten(1985) that there are three key criteria which an organizational identity much satisfy. Tables are provided to show the IT artifact and figures are illustrated to offer hypothetical models for two kinds of false research methods.

IS researchers are from different backgrounds, which brings up the interdisciplinary nature of IS research. There is no doubt that researchers should set boundaries for their studies to avoid ambiguity, meanwhile IS must find its right place to distinguish itself from any other sciences.

This is the very first time for me to write a review for an article. I will just adopt the review form provided by Dr. Ryan as my first attempt.

In my opinion, the directive guidance article, "ANALYZING THE PAST TO PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE: WRITING A LITERATURE REVIEW", is a valuable empirical study. It was based on the fact that there were so few review articles in IS field that a lot of work must be done firstly to provide a stable foundation for this brand new meanwhile interdisciplinary research area.

The article aimed at providing suggestions to future review writers on how to go along with their reviews. Many quantitative research methods were used such as illustrating "concept matrix" tables and figures, presenting the collection of empirical data, and describing various comments from MISQ reviewers, in order to explain the methods and steps to finish a review. Finally the author gave some key points on how to write an ideal article.
