We started off in ACB 211 because someone took our clasroom/Lab for some test. The first hour was great. We asked questions about assignments and technologies. Mete answered everything well. That hour helped everyone understand what was expected from us for the class. We also talked about the various technologies available for our 3rd assignment. From that discussion I was able to settle on one technology, Bulletin Board Forum and select some software. I will install it before class next week.
We finally got into the lab at 8:20pm and proceeded to group up and go over last weeks assignment. That was very helpful as there were plenty of questions regarding it. There were 2 teams of 3 people and by the end of the class everyone had gotten out of their chair to go see what another team was doing. It was the most collaborative effort I've seen before. By the end of the class everyone had installed and tested all of the extensions, etc. from the assignment. Some where more helpful than others.
Shantanu's extension is only good on the computer that installs it. The editor is quite nice, but the lack of portability make is less attractive. Leaving a comment is cool. It turns your wiki into a blog. Email notification of a new user is helpful. I thought that would be a standard feature of a wiki. Ben's RSS feed import proved to be the trickiest part. Installing was difficult and then you had to learn how to create a templet and import that feed into the template. It was the most difficult part of the assignment. Pingbox is kinda lame. All it does is ping a location and tell you if it was successful or not. Big deal. It also require a minor change in the script to work properly.
We didn't discuss the differences between sock puppet, meat puppet and doppelganger. I had some information about everythign but the doppelganger. Dolly Amy had somehting on the doppelganger. Again, the team appraoch really worked.
