Davina Padgett

Brief description

Second-year Ph.D. student

Who am I?

I'm a California native, though I did spend one frigid year living in Detroit, MI. I graduated with my BA in English literature in 2004 and my MA in English Composition (literature track) in 2006, both from CSU San Bernardino. While completing my degree objectives, I spent the last four years working as a techinical writer at a geotechnical engineering firm. I finally grew tired of writing about faults/linements, slope stability analyses, liquifaction potential, expansion indexes, and all the other exciting things that make up the content of soils investigation reports. Thankfully, in Fall 2006, I was able to get a teaching position with the English Department at CSUSB, which keeps me very, very busy! It was also in Fall 2006 that I began the doctoral program in English at CGU.

During my MA coursework, my work centered on various aspects of Early Modern and 17th-century British literature, particularly in the areas of Milton studies and Shakespeare, and my Master's thesis focused on the works of Thomas More and Erasmus. In addition to those subject areas, I am also interested in narrative and the novel, the rhetorical tradition, Early American lit. before 1820, and the intersections of literature with law and religion.
