Brief description

"The interconnection thing is definitely for real."

Who am I?

I'm working on my PhD in cultural studies, having received a Master's in Public Art Studies from the University of Southern California School of Fine Arts (where I now teach one course in the fall). My interests vary broadly from one moment and one week to the next. One minute it's queer subjectivities and politics with a strong Foucauldian bent, the next it's food studies through both media analysis and readings of cultural artifacts and global agricultural systems (apologies for the lousy sentence). In my heart of hearts I am also a lover of words for their own sake, ever the English major and poet.

A random sampling from my bookshelf: "What Narcissism Means to Me," by Tony Hoagland, "Middlesex," by Jeffrey Eugenides, "Art & Lies," by Jeanette Winterson, The Complete Poems of Anne Sexton, "Food Politics," by Marion Nestle, "The Power of Place," by Dolores Hayden, and "The Spiral Staircase," by Karen Armstrong.

Interests

all things French and the francophiles who love them, bicycling around my 'hood after dark, blueberries in the morning--still slightly wet from washing and cold, cultural/art/literary theory, driving, film, fooood, good wine/beer, growing things, old friends, public art, Quakerism, queer-ness, radio, reviving the flaneur, revolution, silly television shows, travel, walking along the proverbial beach
