Peace, Social Changes, and Globalization
Overview.
The world has been experiencing rapid globalization since the 1990s; there is a growing argument, especially as an extension of modernization theory, about the impact of globalization on both micro and macro level of community life in various countries. This seminar will examine globalization as a development paradigm and examine a range of interpretations and theories from those economists who contend that globalization is the course of wealth and welfare and compare them to those scholars who argue that globalization is the source of inequality and social exclusion, injustice and social disparities. An examination of both positions will shed light on how cultivating justice and achieving peace in a globalizing world can be achieved with a greater sense of common purpose and shared goals at the international and national levels.
