Project Purpose

The NAROH Project is an inductive inquiry conducted by the the TDNY 401 class at CGU during the fall semester of 2006.  The subject of the study is the nature and history of inductive inquiry at CGU.  The following purpose statement provides a broad initial outline of this effort.

The purpose of this phenomenological study is to understand how inductive and creative processes shape scholarly activities at CGU.  At this stage of the research, inductive and creative processes will be defined as the left side of Czikszentmihalyi' diagram (the observation -> generalization -> theory building loop) -- the inductive knowledge process discussed in Gladwell's Blink and Czikszentmihalyi's Creativity.

Research problem statement

The purpose of this case study is to discover the knowledge creation processes for CGU academia. At this state in the research, the knowledge creation process will be generally defined as how faculty in different fields of studies reached their research insights. (Sonya)

The purpose of this phenomenological study is to develop a scholarly community or culture for CGU. At this stage in the research, the scholarly community or culture will generally defined as a community built through inductive knowledge and processes. (MJ)

The purpose of this grounded theory study is to discover the theoretical framework for creativity and scholarly contributions of CGU scholars and their impact on both teaching and learning processes.  At this stage in the research the creativity and scholarly contribution will be generally defined as the processes by which memes in the disciplines are changed.
