Greetings! This is the class blog. We'll use this space to submit weekly assignments.

The first assignment is to read chapter 1 of Malcolm Gladwell's Blink and answer the following questions in less than approx. 1 page. Note that this was an in-class excercise and you do not need to submit/post an answer.

Try to think of an academic (or life) experience where you acted on ‘rapid cognition’, a hunch, intuitive judgment, or other sudden flash of insight.  How did the insight impact your decision or course of action?  What were the short and long term results?  Looking back, was the decision to act good or bad and why (or why not)?

React to the following questions. Write approximately 1-2 pages total. I suggest you write your answer in a word editor, then copy and paste your answer in 2 places.  First, post it to your personal blog by clicking "Your Blog" above and then clicking on "post a new entry". Second, post it below this question by clicking on "comment(s)" below. Under "Access Restrictions", make sure you make your personal blog posting "public".  If you have questions, send an email to Ben Schooley (ben.schooley@cgu.edu).

1. What reaction do you have to the concept of rapid cognition, particularly as it influences your activity as a scholar?

2. What is your favorite story/example in the book?

3. Which CGU scholar is mentioned in the book?
